Using a more vibrant and warm color palette to design Adis clothes
So, hello there! I got too nervous to draw backgrounds or redesign, so I did some color swatches and this bad boy. I designed some clothes.
Here’s the palette I made a long time ago and showed on this blogThe new palette I made. (like made from scratch. It is pigment and honey and/or honey medium!)Here’s some more of those lovely swatches to show the variety. It’s the palette again 😉
And I’m going to post my palettes again so you can see how they look. 😀
Here are the two palettes. Not everything on these palettes are made by me, but all of them have been used. My palettes look like they’re art by themselves haha.
I forgot to show all my little studies I did for color environment and I’m posting on my phone in a environment that doesn’t have my art around.
Anyway, I’ve been doing little sketches and paintings as well and have been struggling.
I was drawing Zhan in some fancy Adis clothes but got stressed out with his face and how I drew him that I didn’t finish.Lupita drawn. I was drawing someone else but it looked like him so I changed it.😂This is just a painting study for an underpainting to know what colors look like in surroundingsFinished product I don’t have any blues on the last two. I used a paint from Daniel Smith named Kyanite Genuine. (It’s not that blue in the tube and actually looks like a sparkly blue-black or payne’s grey in the one I bought and allegedly it is kyanite rock…but I don’t know if it is or isn’t. It’s definitely not that granulating nor really does much. It’s just dull but I love sparky stuff though.)
So, I was a bit productive…but eh…but not really.
Have a nice day and stay hydrated and healthy! Talk to you later.☺️
My homework assignment in the baby stages. It looks goofy.
Anyway, I could lament about how this painting looks failed right now…but why?!☺️ I rather gush about mixed media.
I’ve never been much of a traditionalist when it comes to art, so particular notions mean nothing to me. People could guilt me for hours and I’ll feel bad, but I’d never change. Colored pencil and acrylic paint have improved my paintings and allowed me to do what I wanted to. Don’t get me wrong, I still love love love my watercolors, but other tools prevent me from giving up.
Colored pencils
So, I love colored pencils so much because they are still somewhat very transparent, but still have the ability to layer over things in a way that makes the painting look interesting. So, I can show you two paintings that were fixed by colored pencils.
Two friends hanging out and done with a fugitive palette. I still haven’t finished this dumb sketchbook.🫠🙄
The thing about watercolors is that sometimes it’s very difficult to layer and get soft edges when you’re a beginner and using cheap paper, so left chick was looking dull with a bunch blossoms on her face making it hard to see her details. She’s quite dark skinned so capturing light without making her greasy was a struggle! Something something lighting something ambient occlusion. It is a study on how to draw people in environments. Still suck at backgrounds though.
Here’s more expensive paper and test drawings. Observe how the painting is eh but there’s less lines. I hate this paper because it’s too flat and offers no granulation (what I like) so a mí no me gusta el papel.🤷🏾
How my paintings (watercolor) look raw
So, some of the characters move on and get older and have families of their own. This is Neloni’s son’s grandchild with the name of Damijo (like their great-grandparent).Verdaccio study that I took an L on by not understanding the idea correctly. It’s not bad, but it’s just…it’s just not right.🤷🏾Trying to design a look for one of the nations, but this looks like a soggy bread version of the Wodaabe (Fulani) and was abandoned by me.☺️Former picture of Adan before I changed their features. They are wearing men’s New Haden Adish clothes. The very casual ones that don’t look as geometric)So, this is Celesi. He’s dead on this picture and is in a Jinhi micosi (or dream state. It is a place to communicate with spirits, ancestors, and other Nini/Nene specific things. It deals also with memories and emotions as well). So, when spirits go into the micosi, they become translucent. This is in the perspective of Neloni, his husband, he sees a lot of information. His culture clothes (that I’ve changed), his inner color/favorite color which is green-blue (I haven’t really established it), and his age when he died. Y’all can’t see the detail here, but Celesi died at 35 due to a respiratory illness. He’s shown in the micosi as his best health (but didn’t get his hair back so he’s still bald. He cut his hair because he couldn’t take care of it.)Watercolors
Just colored pencil
Not in the mood to explain who this is bc the drawing makes me sad seeing it. It’s a lovely pic…but no.Adan in woman’s New Haden Adish makeup and clothes. I clearly cared more about the face so I will explain. Almost all Adis women wear too light foundation to the point of looking ashy because they want to accentuate the darkness on their limbs and other body parts. It also is an interesting look to them. The face, other than the navel are the most important areas. Next after those two are a very rich, dark skin tone.Hehe…ugh. It’s very hard to explain. So, this is Lupita, Zhan’s adoptive father. I have redrawn his face and appearance but here’s this one. Ignoring his giraffe neck, weak shoulders, and tunic, I will explain his makeup and the coat. So, the coat is Adis, but made for someone who is Sol. All the shapes correlate to that of a star or a sparkle. (Think about the Sun. The Sun is a star.) The colors correlated are red leaning in that culture. He’s basically dressed as a Sol. The makeup is theatrical, he just doesn’t have his group drawn on his face because Sol don’t do that like Bamy Adis, a group I haven’t named yet, and Bamy culture.*sigh* This is literally a limited palette study. I shouldn’t have rushed to color him.🙂 my coloring skills are questionable.
Acrylic Gouache, Watered down gouache, and the happs.
Some study I did painting a drawing I did of a Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing. Clearly, I’m not him. Don’t come after me (I really don’t care if so, it would be hilarious.)This one was mixing watercolor and acrylic at the same time. This is a very, very stylized picture of Feyondo and Noje. When I tell you I just wanted to try to color Noje enough to look dark, I mean that. I was trying to solidify their colors. Fey looks okay, but Noje is still too light for her description.🙁 I’m still trying to make her look dark.I mentioned this character a while back…This is Vivian. He is an android or some kind of automaton that is powered by an AI. As I am not an AI nor know how to program one like him, I cannot do his art. This is one of his friend’s renditions of him. Coming now with the climate of AI stress, this story is out of pocket. Him and his friend are completely different species and there’s a question or not if he’s truly alive or not. I’m personally not in the mood to argue with people. Anyway, he’s based of an artist and his creator, blah blah blah, he shares a personality with the woman who programmed him, and he is yellowish in skin tone because he’s colored to look like an oil painting. Anyway, the character is very cute.
Miscellaneous grouping
Do not come after my digital art skills. I have no name for her yet, but she’s basically a Bob Ross but also Jim Bakker. She is a televangelist/representation for Bamy culture, but was there to basically cheer people up during a long war between two different countries against Bamygdala. She is showing her one dimensionality here of only being happy. Of course the actress has a soul, but her on screen character is one dimensional . She’s either happy, elated, content, or manic. Not sad or confused, just happy. Sometimes she gets so happy that she cries and her makeup smudges or runs. She’s so intense that some viewers say they cry or they donate or send her letters telling her how happy she makes them. She’s basically a brainwasher. After watching her smile and paint and act quirky, some folks say they get dragged in and they binge watch her show to feel something. You’re probably going to be like, “Feets, if you don’t know what this painting is called, why are you posting it?” So, hehe…I don’t know who was the original that painted this, I just wanted to see if I could paint it and draw it. Funnily, I have enough of the paints and pigments to make it a bit more accurate but I don’t have the skill level yet. Tried to work on my lighting skills and object skills. Anyway, it’s patchy because it’s gouache and done by an amateur.
About that one character. If any of y’all had the experience of being with Evangelist groups as a child, knows how intense they can get and how they emotionally corner you sometimes to donate and/or do things that you may not want to do. This is also like Catholic Baroque art to people living in that time. It is intense. So intense, you might as well say you’re not thinking straight. Fascinating stuff. If anyone has some non-Evangelicalist experiences, do share. I’d love to know.
It was nice talking to you. I hope you stay healthy and hydrated. ☺️
Practicing my watercolor and drawing skills. If it looks janky, it looks janky. It’s progress.
Standing there, Standing right there, Composure upright, looking straight ahead.
No tears, No anger, Nothing but looking.
Your ears are not aroused, are they? Your ears are not aroused. Your eyes mean nothing to you, You’re thinking.
No tears, No anger, Nothing but looking.
No thoughts of taste, Clutching your chest.
Standing there. Standing right there. Composure upright, Looking straight ahead.
Hey, y’all. I have been quite busy. Thank you so much for your patience. I just want to ramble about nothing for a while. Why? I just do. I hope it doesn’t annoy you.
Anyway, I cannot bring myself to write and draw out a huge story because of that fear. Not of failing. It’s the fear to start and not finish. I always have to plan for my own self because of my inability to follow through on things as well as burn out.
For these pictures, I was trying to design clothing designs but also just establish color designs for two very important characters. They are Noshili’s brother and sister. Reqina (/ɾe.qɪ.nə/) is the brother and Pitri (/pɪ.t̪ə.rɨ/) is the sister. Pitri is an equivalent of a queen in the state she lives in. Since she is a Revalan, she has the ability to be around very wealthy people at any given moment. She’s married to the equivalent of a king. In the state she’s from, her family has much of the power since they’re extremely wealthy and are everywhere in politics, religion, and entertainment. I mean, I based them of the Medici family, but you know…there’s tons of very powerful families everywhere that are very corrupt. She is just as corrupt as people in her family.
She loves her husband, but she was quick to marry him at sixteen because she hates her family. Since her mom was a bad drug addict and her father was arrested for beating his wife and kids as well as moving funds around from all the companies he was in, she was fostered and adopted by an Ane-Ne Najigi named Nole/Adane/Zhan that at the time, had a cultural marriage to her uncle. He was cool to her, but she couldn’t help being extremely embarrassed by his abnormal behaviors and strange appearance that she rejected him quite often. She regrets it at times, but she’s a stickler on her beliefs and refuses to change them for anyone, including family. She only has a good relationship with Reqina. She doesn’t consider Noshili/Tatmtar a real sibling since they have a different biological father (NOTE HERE: This is a character, this is not my belief. I like to make characters with different personalities, it, however, doesn’t mean I share any of their beliefs) and that they look very different (they all have similar features, Tatmtar just has darker skin and a bit different features) to her idea of family—as well, their existence ruined her mom’s marriage. She never bullies them or attacks them, she just calls them what she seems fit.
Her best traits are that she’s very close to her husband and is his crutch when he’s stressed and they both do similar roles in the family of helping and guiding their children.
They are the same age too—I hope mentioning her age doesn’t make y’all think she married an old man. She didn’t. He’s the same age as her. As well, in this culture, usually couples that get married that are sixteen years old (which is the age of consent there) have to be the same age and no younger and if they’re older, they have to be seventeen and maybe eighteen—if not, people will look at the relationship as foul and you will get slandered and harrassed or shunned.
The other picture with the red background is a drawing of a character within the Revalan family. Look…y’all…it’s hard capturing the vibe of the character. That’s his vibe. I think I will draw him again to how he actually appears when feigning stability or actually is stable. I was mostly working on facial features and drawings and being consistent with family member faces. All members that are related to Damijo biologically have very similar eyes to him and rarely deviate from that (of course, there’s exceptions). I didn’t capture that look very well, but I tried very hard. I literally forgot how I described him in my notes so if he looks drastically different next time you see him, then he looks drastically different. I like going off of what I describe characters as to keep it consistent. Usually when I like the design, the notes don’t matter. This design is a great start.
Anyway, nice seeing y’all. Thank you so much for following.
I’m sorry if it seems like I’m replying late or accidentally ignored your comments. I literally cannot see some of them unless I look for them because they get buried deep in the comments thing and I don’t get a notification. 😞
It actually made me frustrated because I didn’t want this to be my New Years post, but it is what it is!
Here’s some swatches I’ve been working on. Ultramarine Blue (PB29) is such a basic color but it’s so meaningful to me. The granulation is always so breathtaking on it. It’s a shame that Phthalo green is mildly toxic and has copper because it’s so cute. PG7 and PG36 are so beautiful to me because of their vibrancy and saturation. The saturation always makes my heart melt but I agree with others…they’re TERRIBLE to mull and they’re like grape juice on a carpet when it comes to staining.
Okay, since this is random, I’m just going to ramble and gush.
So, recently I tried Rose Madder (NR9) and fell in love with it. I tend to make notebook art and sketchbook art so it doesn’t stress me out, but that is one beautiful color! I want to try Michael Harding’s watercolor version instead of Winsor and Newton, but I don’t have Michael Harding money so I’ll probably just try Etsy in the future. Alizarin Crimson PR83, isn’t the same to me though I like it.
I’ve also gotten into desaturated colors like PG23 (Green Earth) and PG17 (Chrome Green Oxide). My heart goes out to both of them because they can be very similar but PG23 is low tinting, weak, and transparent and PG17 is the opposite! I just really like looking at those colors. I don’t know how either could just sit in my palette, but they are and I will find a way to include them.
I really like PV15 (Ultramarine Violet) and PV16 (Manganese Violet) . Since I just started getting into diverse color shades, I have been trying to find different colors and those stuck out to me. They are some of my favorite colors because I love purple, and I love granulating colors and they are extreme granulating colors. PV62 from Schminke is granulating and Violet, but it’s more of a huge let down because it’s hard to rewet and kind of just doesn’t look good by itself. I hate to buy convenience colors, but in the future, I will ONLY use PV62 in convenience mixtures. I think that I’m going to be looking for something that looks similar to PV15 and PV16 that isn’t granulating. I think PR88 (Thioindigo Violet) is okay.(I want to show y’all the color, but I don’t understand how I got this paint because it’s extinct and nearly impossible to buy…I honestly am shocked but amused.) If anyone has any suggestions that aren’t PV19 or PR122, I’ll give it a listen.
Colors that I always will like no matter what are PR259, PR179 (Perylene Maroon🤤😮💨), and PR101 (Red Iron Oxide). PR259, or Ultramarine Pink is a pretty, desaturated pink color. Bright compared to other colors but earthy. PR259 is so similar to PR233 but is higher tinting and doesn’t look serious.
So, here’s a color wheel I painted when making a palette. Counterclockwise is PR259 (Ultramarine Pink), PR108 (Cadmium Red Light), PO67 (Pyrazoloquinazolone Orange), PY35 (Cadmium Yellow Deep), PY129 (Green Gold), PG26 (Cobalt Green Deep), PB32 (Smalt?), PV14 (cobalt violet) PV16 (Manganese Violet), PV15 (Ultramarine Violet), and PV29 (Perylene Violet).
I wonder when I dream about someone if that someone sees me in their dream, what’s the point of doing all that dreaming, if it leads to me thinking and remembering those I vowed to forget in my reality.
I question my mind. it is a privilege to remember, but when I want to forget, it all comes back nicely wrapped in a dream.
Never important things, homework, medication, basic self care…
Just faces, bodies, of people who never seem to care about me or remember me.
I just find that upsetting.
It would make sense to leave a writer’s/author’s note. I’ve been looking at some people’s accounts and they do it, but I didn’t know if it was worth it. Is it worth it?
I know it doesn’t look like Lisa Gherardini («Monna Lisa») but it’s her in profile with some interesting clothes on drawn for something else entirelyI cut open some watercolors so I wouldn’t waste them. It was annoyingly messy but here is the result. Color harmony is cool, I guess. Here’s some sketches/watercolor doodles
I’m sick so I can’t do much art without feeling like trash, so I’m going to critique my old art.
Sadorno on a movie playing a character
This picture is cute, but I think I jacked up a lot of the stuff I was going for. I learned a valuable lesson when it comes to watercolors.
One thing, plan OUT THE PICTURE. In fact, that’s the only thing. I didn’t plan this out. I was watching a video on YouTube and I really liked the singing and the passion and thought it fit mildly with the idea of this character. I mostly was looking at the qualities of payne’s gray or some kinda neutral tint from QOR.
QOR is definitely nice for areas on the background , but I remember it doing what it always does in the front. Due to the pigment mixing in there, some of the colors separated when I painted with them causing a cool gray on one side and a warm gray on the other. Pretty, I guess, but unnecessary maybe.
This is supposed to look old—like an old movie. She’s an older actress and by the time of the character events, she’s old and in her seventies. So, I was trying to make the picture blurry on the face to remove “imperfections” and make it look like it’s outside. However, since I didn’t plan it, it wasn’t obvious. You can’t see the character she’s singing to or what she’s doing. The composition of my painting is a bit boring.
Here’s what I was watching at the time. It was a very interesting experience, but I love the emotion.
The song I listened to, and my character’s song is completely different, even in sound. Though, I do like how the film’s music sounds, I’m not sure if I have the music ability to learn how to do that.
Here’s Sadorno’s song
Here’s some of my music. ☺️ This piece is not finished. It takes me a while to write music with my schedule and as well, it’s a process. 🙂
Solisi painted in quickly with ok paper and rushing (this isn’t recent!) you also can also see the pigment colors lol.
Those who know you wonder if you hate them. If you Hated yourself completely. Where was your autonomy? Born to look kissed by the sun, Your skin looked soft. Delicate. You were afraid, but you felt your Family always had your back…
Yet, you turned away. Not out of hate. Not out of embarrassment. You turned for passion and for people to enjoy that passion.
They changed your shell which your soul remained and tried to change your insides—impossible. You, sun baby, are strong even when you turned to the sun. Now there’s two of you. Two souls fighting to stay consciousness. One, a sun baby—the other, the courageous sun.
You are not twins, nor opposites, together as one. One made by their creator—Nini and the other created by the servants of Bamy. Be not confused, be not scared. You live now in complexity. As the complex, courageous sun baby.
I’ll post about this character when I draw the other ones. He’s a celebrity actor and not a main and some of the main characters enjoy the movies he’s in.
Good evening!!! I have some sketches for y’all! I guess it correlates to Spooky Season because all the characters on here aren’t human! I dare say they’re probably closer to humanoid monsters.
Here’s some representation of Najigi skin, but it’s very unfinished.
Some characters are closer to human, but others aren’t. I tried putting family clusters together but I accidentally split characters up like Adelewe and Adexe. Oops. The clusters of families are Ane, Neheme(I believe), and the Nedeme family. One family to the right are associated with the Ane family, but they aren’t biologically related to them. It’s not all the characters.
This is a picture from a related side plot story (it’s unfinished and I forgot to paint his clothes, oops lol)
The picture above is of a character named Vivian (filler name). It’s a painting of a painting in this story. He’s a part of a AU side plot story where the original post apocalyptic plot happened but there was still leftover art. Vivian is an AI art program made by a female programmer placed into an male android by a male creator (don’t know what it’s called sorry). He is based off a venerated artist (that’s LOOSELY based on renaissance artists from this reality) and was made to mimic his art to teach a way to show process. Originally, he was just an arm looking robot thing, but the government received money and made him into a physical form and praiseable in person. Vivian was created then. He has interpretations and memories of the artist he’s based off of and has some of the programmers and designers features and personality quirks added to him.
One day, he receives some update that gives him a “soul” or a spirit—but it’s of course not a human spirit. That little brush of consciousness makes him unsatisfied with his art and ponders why he does it like that and why he feels controlled and why being alive hurts and feels terrible.
Side note
I can only write through my humanity and my idea of things—I’m not an AI nor do I know the experience of AI. You probably wonder why I’d have a character like this in the first place, but if people can write about other people, I can too.
On the other hand, an another artist, Hanzo /ɑ̃.ɮʊ/, is upset because he’s an obscure and irrelevant artist and gets mad at Vivian because he is basically so popular that his art is protected and is even angrier that he’s not a human so he tries to lose his humanity.
He goes with a friend to a dilapidated museum (not noted as a museum) to find bodies that are petrified by the apocalypse that happened some unnoted (my bad) time before the events. It ends up putting him on the top list for artists.
Anyway, he meets Vivian and clashes with him and invalidates his feelings. Vivian doesn’t really know what a human is but he doesn’t see himself as different but Hanzo sees him differently and it hurts his feelings because other people see him that way and kind of really hates being alive.
Since it takes a while to write and draw, mostly draw, I have not gotten up to the point where they become friends. This piece is a painting of Vivian in an environment done by Hanzo. Since this is not a real world and isn’t based on reality, some things just don’t make sense—but it’s actually supposed to be realistic to that environment because they’re just drawings and 2D characters and not based on real people. Doesn’t excuse me for messing up Vivian’s proportions. The only thing that I did on purpose was trying to make the piece look overworked, fussy, and lose life to it. As well, Vivian’s skin is yellow naturally as he’s supposed to look like an oil painting that came to life with the silliest looking blushed face that makes him read as non human. I would normally never draw a landscape like this, but I was more so trying to use only horizontal lines.
Thank you for reading this far. If you have any questions or just wanna hear more, leave a comment.
